Next Brown Bag Lunch Seminar:
How To Make News and Stretch Your Print and Broadcast Advertising Dollars
Learn how to get your news and photos published, how to design a print advertising
campaign, and how to use low-cost techniques to advertise in the broadcast media.

These are the subjects of the second in a series of brown bag lunch seminars
designed to build and retain business in a difficult economy sponsored by the
Rancho Bernardo Business Association. The seminar will begin at 11:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, May 6, in the Community Room at San Diego National Bank on
Bernardo Center Drive.

Larry McIntyre, who will speak on print advertising, is the Publisher and Creative
Director of Legend Editions and formerly headed McIntyre Advertising Agency where
he won the coveted Homburg Award for a multi-faceted advertising campaign.

Marty Judge will speak on how to make news. He is a former newspaper reporter, magazine editor, and documentary filmmaker. He was a public affairs officer for
a dozen years at the U.S. Department of State where he worked daily with the
national media to gain favorable treatment of the conduct of the Department’s
foreign relations.

Myrna Reese, who will speak on low-cost broadcast advertising, heads Reese
Creative Communications. It is a full-service advertising and public relations firm
that began operations in 1974.

The seminar is free for RBBA members and costs $10 for non-members and don't forget to bring your brown bag lunch!

Other seminars include What Color Is Your Parachute on June 3, and Guerilla
Marketing on July 6. All seminars will be at San Diego National Bank. To make
reservations for the Brown Bag Lunch Seminar, call Mary at 858-451-3406

Thank you Bernard'O
April's reception at Bernard'O Restaurant was
one of the most attended receptions in the
three-year history of the RBBA. And as expected, Bernard and Diana Mougel, owners of the award-
winning Bernard'O Restaurant, and their world-
renowned chef Patrick Ponsaty kept a huge
variety of elegant hors d'oeuvres coming all
evening long. Bernard also gave each guest a
certificate for $10 off lunch for two and $20
off dinner for two.

The Mougels have been gracious hosts for three
straight years with their well-known hospitality
and a variety of delicious and unique French and
American hors d'oeuvres. Join them for lunch or
dinner. The complete Bernard'O lunch and dinner
menus, early dining menu and happy hour menu
are online at: Bernard'O Restaurant

RBBA BROWN BAG BUSINESS LUNCH LAUNCHED

RBBA Board member Nancy Canfield reports that the inaugural "Brown Bag Lunch
Seminar was a big success. Here are her remarks:

"The Brown Bag Lunch today was well attended and well received. Our objective
was to give our members, 9 present, and prospective members, of which there
were 12, something of value to take home. We accomplished that."

Attendees learned what each of the three local papers want and need to produce
press releases and articles about businesses and their events. Panelists were Jeff
Frank from the daily North County Times, Brendan Ruff of the weekly Pomerado
News, and Mark Brenner of the RB Sun, a monthly.

The audience learned about submitting copy, what will be used as is and what
won’t, and about submitting photos, how many DPI and other requirements, when
to submit articles, what subjects are likely to be published, all the methods that
lead to success. Best of all, they now “know” a contact at each paper, phone
numbers, e-mail addresses, and other editors. Everyone left the room feeling they
got something of value for their time. In fact, many lingered for an extra half hour
asking questions of the journalists. I’d call that a success!

Subsequent Brown Bag Lunches are:

RBAA to begin a major advertising campaign and
you are part of it
The Rancho Bernardo Business Association is arranging a full year print
advertising campaign with our local newspapers. We will be promoting our
members with a full page color ad in both the News Journal and The Sun
Signature.

All members will be listed categorically and ads are available to members for only
$105 or $195. Ad space is limited, so if you are interested in advertising,
please
realize that advertising is on a first-come first-serve basis
and must be purchased
for six consecutive months. You will, however, be billed monthly rather than
upfront. Click here to view the ad format. Call Mary at 858-451-
3406 or email
her at:
marys@rbbusinessassociation.com to purchase your ad space. Advertising
will begin in May. Your RBBA is working hard for you and this is just one of the
benefits we are providing to promote your business to the community.

"Proud to be a Member"
static cling window decals
now available.
Let your customers know that you are a member and
display our new "Proud Member of the Rancho Bernardo Business Association"
static cling window decal in your business window and on your automobile window.
The advantage of a static cling decal is it does
not leave residue when removed
and it can be removed and repositioned or stored on its liner for future use.
